Dr. Namita Jaggi

Namita Jaggi

She is currently the Director, Lab services and Infection control & Chief, Education & Research at the Artemis Hospitals, Gurgaon and Dwarka, India. She is an alumnus of the prestigious MAMC (Maulana Azad Medical College) in New Delhi, India and has more than 25 years of experience in Microbiology and Infection control having excelled in her academic career with many awards, gold medals and distinctions.

She has been pivotal in setting up the Artemis lab, an NABL accredited lab with state of the art technology, stringent quality control and well qualified staff. Dr Namita is the chairperson for Infection Control Committee and the Infection control officer of the hospital. She leads and manages the robust and effective infection control program in the organization with her team of infection control nurses to reduce healthcare associated infections in patients, staff and visitors. She also leads the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program in the hospital. Her key areas of interest and passion are antimicrobial stewardship, device-associated infection rates, healthcare worker safety and healthcare epidemiology.

Dr Namita has won various awards and Honors – under her leadership Artemis Hospital was the first hospital in India to be awarded for the Asia Pacific hand hygiene excellence award, 2010-2011 at Melbourne. Dr Namita is considered to be a pioneer in popularizing Infection prevention and control in the country

She has successfully steered the hospital through NABH, NABL, Green OT and JCI audits.
She is Chief, Education and Research and oversees the DNB program and the paramedical training programs in the hospital. She has also spearheaded the establishment of the Research lab, a DSIR certified lab an advanced lab central facility which caters to the high end investigations, clinical research and translational research and is DSIR certified. The lab is fully equipped for testing of molecular oncology (cancers), molecular infectious, specialized haematopathology (blood cancers) and genetic disorders.

Dr. Namita Jaggi is a NABL, NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers), Green OT . She is one among two lab JCI surveyors in the world. She has also successfully steered the Artemis hospital through NABH, NABL, Green OT, JCI and Safe-I NABH audits in her fields. She is an invited speaker at many national and international conferences and has several publications in peer reviewed journals to her credit.

She has authored a book - Microbiology Theory for MLT. She is the editor for Journal of Patient Safety and Infection control and Journal of Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control. She has co-guided several DNB theses and is also actively involved in translational research at Artemis. She has represented India in writing APSIC Central line associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI) guidelines and also contributed chapters on blood stream infections and judicious use of antibiotics in a book published by Indian Medical Association (IMA). She actively collaborates with national and international experts and has won numerous awards and recognitions.

Dr Namita is a member of International professional organizations like SHEA (Society for healthcare epidemiology of America), IFIC (International Federation of Infection Control) and APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology). She is an Executive board member for APSIC (Asia Pacific Society for Infection Control) and HISI (Hospital Infection Society, India) and member of IAMM (Indian Association of Medical Microbiologist), Country secretary for INICC (International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium). She is one among twelve in the world to be chosen as the APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology) Heroes of infection prevention for the year 2012 and SHEA International ambassador for the year 2015.   • • She is spearheading a project on “Increasing awareness on antibiotic consumption “in the villages Nakhrola in Haryana and it has completed two of the four phases
    • Stage -1 – Assessment of knowledge, awareness and practices based on a questionnaire
    • Stage -2 Identifying road blocks
    • Stage -3- Educational interventions
    • Stage 4- Measurement of improvement and data analysis.
  • • Dr Namita Jaggi regularly speaks on public platforms on issues of health importance and has on numerous occasions participated in healthcare fairs as a speaker.
  • • Dr Namita spreads the message of hand hygiene across India by means of videos and educational lectures .
